Princess Irede Abumere is a Senior Broadcast Journalist at BBC Africa where she is also the team leader of the digital innovation hub in Lagos.
Abumere has covered stories in China, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
Abumere was formerly the Deputy Editor-in-chief at Pulse Nigeria. Before being promoted to that position, she was the Entertainment Editor. She hosted ‘The Morning Show’, Pulse Nigeria’s daily morning show on Facebook Live. She also conducted one-on-one interviews with Nigerian and international industry leaders, celebrities and influencers for the Pulse.
She has previously served as reporter at the Voice of Nigeria in Lagos, where she covered local news stories and presented the evening news summary. She also worked as a researcher for BBC television series ‘Watchdog’.
In addition, Abumere has previously worked at Viacom International Media Networks Africa as the Digital Media coordinator for MTV Base Africa and Nickelodeon Africa in Nigeria.
In 2014, she received the Cycle Sheffield Award for Media Cycling Story of The Year. In 2015, she was recognised as one of 50 women changing journalism by Women in Journalism Nigeria.
Abumere graduated from the University of Lagos where she studied Mass Communication. In 2014, she earned an MA in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Sheffield’s School of Journalism. She has lived and worked in Switzerland, Nigeria, Cameroun, and the United Kingdom.
